Release of 'USQ: The First 40 Years' and 'USQ Regalia'

February 2 February

Welcome to Country and Founders' Dinner

A dedication ceremony and gala dinner held at USQ's Toowoomba campus to signal the start of the celebratory year and pay respect to the traditional owners. People from all walks of life who have contributed to the development of the institution were honoured at these events.

Library Exhibitions and Displays

Each month an interesting display is being held on Level 3 of the Library.

Launch of the USQ Historical Archives


7 March

Multi-faith Service

A multi-faith service giving thanks for 40 years of USQ and acknowledging its cultural and religious diversity.


USQ Fraser Coast Arts Festival

Held on the USQ Fraser Coast campus this event incorporated an Art Exhibition and Opera on the Bay and coincided with Shakespeare on the Bay.

23 and 24 March USQ Fraser Coast Film Event

A three-part half hour televised series (Outside Edge) screened outdoors on the USQ Fraser Coast Campus.

31 March

Intercampus Duathlon

An intercampus duathlon based on campus teams and individual competitors run in the Toowoomba area.

Library Exhibitions and Displays

Each month an interesting display was held on Level 3 of the Library.


28 April

USQ Fraser Coast Linking Campus to Community - Community Dialogue Cafe

Community dialogue was encouraged using the World Cafe dialogue methology to engage in a 'conversation that matters' about our communities.

May 11 May

USQ Fraser Coast and Hervey Bay City Council Celebrations

A celebration of the 10th anniversary of the USQ Fraser Coast Campus and Hervey Bay City Council precinct.

12 May

USQ Fraser Coast Graduation, Foundation and Reunion Dinner

An event which incorporated the 2007 graduation dinner with a 40th anniversary celebration for USQ Fraser Coast alumni, past USQ staff and dignitaries from the Fraser Coast.


30 May

USQ Fraser Coast Moving Forward Together Forum

An interactive forum between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians in the spirit of reconciliation which commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Referendum to give Aboriginal people the vote in Australia and to be included in the Census.


USQ Springfield Campus: 40 films in 40 nights

Films sourced from the Australian Film and Sound Archive were screened in the USQ Springfield Auditorium free of charge to members of USQ and the Springfield community.

July/August 'The Magic Flute' Opera Season

A gala 40th anniversary opera season of seven performances of Mozart's 'The Magic Flute'.

40/40 Film Competition

A film competition telling your individual USQ 'story' shot simultaneously over a 40-hour period by USQ graduates, current students and members of the general public. Finalists' films to be shown during USQ Toowoomba Campus Toowoomba Open Day on 19 August 2007


26-29 September

International Women's Conference

'Education, Employment and Everything... the triple layers of a woman's life' held on the USQ Toowoomba and USQ Springfield campuses.
26-28 September

2007 ANZELA Conference

'Contention and controversy in education law' held at USQ's Fraser Coast Campus.
27-28 September

Third International Conference on Pedagogies and Learning

'Meanings emerging in practice' held on the USQ Springfield campus.


17-18 October

National Science and Engineering Grand Challenge

The culmination of a series of Science and Engineering Challenges involving more than 12,000 students from 400 high schools in all states of Australia during 2007.


2 November

Dedication of the Community Drive and burial of the USQ Toowoomba 40th Anniversary Time Capsule

A dedication ceremony took place on Friday 2 November 2007.

8 October - 9 November

Virtual Conference: (Re)Presenting Community 2007

A virtual conference about contemporary learning communities.

4 November

USQ Run Ride Walk

Supporting the Toowoomba Hospital Children's Appeal, 'Doin' it for the Kids', this was a community event with all ages and fitness levels catered for.

30 November USQ Fraser Coast Community Debate

Water is over-rated - water sustainability for our future - a debate featuring a panel of government and non-government experts.


5-7 December

ACIS 2007

The 3 Rs: Research, Relevance and Rigour – Coming of Age. The 18th Australasian Conference on Information Systems will be held at the USQ Toowoomba campus.

7 December

History of USQ Fraser Coast

Launch of a web site documenting the history of the USQ Fraser Coast Campus including a public display and burial of a time capsule.


17 December

Announcement of 'Where's Phil?' Winner

The culmination of a year-long photographic competition in which 'Phil', the 40th anniversary mascot, is to feature.
