USQ Fraser Coast Graduation, Foundation and Reunion Dinner
More than 130 university students and academics, dressed in academic gowns, processed from the Maryborough Town Hall to the Brolga Theatre for the 2007 USQ Fraser Coast graduation on Saturday 12 May 2007.
This year’s graduation ceremony was the largest for USQ Fraser Coast, which celebrated its10th anniversary this year in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of USQ.
One hundred and four students graduated from the campus and all but four of them attended the ceremony.
Maryborough’s town cryer announced the start of the procession with a blast from the heritage cannon. Eighty-nine of the students were undergraduates. The other 15 received post graduate qualifications. More than one-fifth of all graduates attained excellent grades throughout their study. Twenty-two of them achieved a grade-point average of six or more.
Valedictorian, Pauline Laskowski of Hervey Bay, achieved straight sevens.
The guest speaker at the graduation ceremony was world-renowned Singaporean educational expert Professor Leo Tan.
The ceremony was also attended by USQ Chancellor, Mrs Bobbie Brazil, who handed students their certificates, and Vice Chancellor, Professor Bill Lovegrove, as well as local mayors and politicians.
