USQ Fraser Coast and Hervey Bay City Council Celebrations

A celebration of the 10th anniversary of the USQ Fraser Coast Campus and Hervey Bay City Council Precinct took place in the precinct courtyard between the Hervey Bay Library and the university buildings on Friday 11 May 2007.

‘Party in the Piazza’ was a celebration of a great community partnership in culture, knowledge, and creativity.

Approximately 250 people attended the celebration where they were entertained by Lily Podger Street Theatre performers, and music from Frank Benn, Jazz Addiction, and Mike Knight & Jazz Band. Party participants brought picnic baskets and rugs or indulged from the gourmet sausage sizzle available. The Hervey Bay Regional Art Gallery was open for the Party with its current ‘Gift’ exhibition.

A verbatim theatre piece was performed as one of the highlights of the evening. Local performers who had attended a USQ Creative Communities Verbatim Theatre workshop, which included attendance at the USQ Dialogue Café, voiced the social and political issues and concerns of the people living on the Fraser Coast through a one-act dramatisation.

Another highlight of the evening was a musical lantern procession to the precinct lake where partygoers were showered with an impressive fireworks display.

This night of fellowship and fun began a weekend of  celebration with Graduation on the Fraser Coast held the next day.

Party in the Piazza was proudly supported by:

  • USQ 40th Anniversary Bright Ideas Initiative
  • USQ Library
  • Hervey Bay City Council
  • Hervey Bay Regional Art Gallery
  • Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF)
