USQ Toowoomba 40th Anniversary Time Capsule

On 2 November 2007, as part of the Opening Ceremony for the USQ Community Drive, a time capsule was buried adjacent to the windmill sculpture.

The time capsule contains memorabilia from the present to tell future generations what university life was like in 2007, what issues we faced and what we thought was important.

It is planned that the time capsule will be opened as part of University’s 80th anniversary celebration in 2047.

The time capsule itself is a craftsman-made stainless steel container made to rigorous specifications.

What to include in the time capsule was the subject of a competition that was open to all members of the USQ community. The contents of the time capsule are varied.

For more information on time capsules see: Archives Advice 39: ‘Time Capsules’ available from National Archives of Australia.
