A debate on the hot topic of water sustainability attracted a reasonable crowd and a good deal of media attention recently on the Fraser Coast.

USQ Fraser Coast hosted a panel of experts and government representatives for the 40th Anniversary event at USQ Fraser Coast Campus on Friday 30 November 2007.

Panel members included Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation Andrew McNamara, State Member for Maryborough Chris Foley, David Wiskar from Wide Bay Water, Dr Ian Richards from USQ Fraser Coast, Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Sustainable Catchments (ACSC) Dr Jerry Maroulis and ACSC Sustainable Water Program Leader Associate Professor Mark Porter.

The panel interacted with the audience, addressing issues and answering questions about piping water from North Queensland, floating icebergs up from Antarctica, taking water from Fraser Island and building the controversial Traveston Dam.

The evening featured in the local television news and made the papers for five days in a row. Participants described the evening as informative and entertaining.
