The 2000s

ShrewOne of the biggest growth stories to emerge from the Faculty of Arts during the mid 2000s was the development of the annual Shakespeare in Queens Park Festival.

The idea of an outdoor festival of Shakespeare was born in the Department of Theatre in 2003, and the first festival in March 2004 introduced the community to "Hamlet" which was performed and directed by staff and students from USQ. The festival continued to develop each year in collaboration with the Toowoomba City Council, local business, and the state government, and by the 2007 festival, was able to tour to Fraser Coast where it also enjoyed great success.

Sitting under the stars with a bottle of wine, good friends and food and seeing some superbly produced performances of Shakespeare's play brought thousands each year to Toowoomba's loveliest green space. It continues to be one of the highlights of the annual cultural calendar in the city, attracting visitors to the region.

Coralie Graham with fellow delegates at International Conference on Strength Based Strategies The International Conference on Strength Based Strategies held in November 2006 in India was a highlight for me. I presented my research and ran a workshop.

The conference was attended by people from India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Canada, and Australia.  This photograph was taken at Galconda Fort, Hyderabad, the day before the conference and all, with the exception of one, were from Australia. My USQ bag certainly gained a lot of comments.

I have been involved in completing a Masters degree externally over the last couple of years, having done my undergraduate degree elsewhere.

I have found the support for USQ external students fantastic, which has vindicated my decision to study here, which was originally based on the university's strong reputation for off-campus students.

All staff in my experience, both academic and support, have been very approachable and hands-on. My association with USQ overall has been very positive and the education first class.
