Mr Carl Rallings Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students and Communities)

Role

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students and Communities) is responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership and management of the functions, centres and departments that comprise the Students and Communities portfolio incorporating Student Management, International, Partnerships, Alumni, Social Justice, Access and Equity to influence, support and facilitate consistent delivery of USQ’s branded service model which enhances the student experience and builds the University’s relationships with its current, future and past student communities, both domestically and internationally.

Biography

Carl has had extensive experience in leading and managing a diverse range of student management functions in both regional and metropolitan universities. Carl commenced at USQ in August 2009 in the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Management) where he played a leading role in developing a University-wide management philosophy and communication approach that is student objective oriented, and built on USQ’s reputation for student relationship management. His previous role was Group Director, Student Services at Southern Cross University. Previously Carl held several positions at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane and has also worked at the University of Southampton in the UK in academic administration and Colleges of Higher Education liaison.

Memberships and affiliations

Carl holds a degree in Commerce from the University of Wollongong. He has served on several Commonwealth business advisory groups, has been a Director of the University Admissions Centre Board NSW, and is currently Deputy Chair of the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre Board. Carl has held the position of Regional Chair for the Queensland Region Association of Tertiary Education Management for the past two years. Carl is also a member of the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA).

Carl is a member of Universities Australia Deputy Vice-Chancellor/Pro Vice-Chancellor International Committee, and the Regional University Network International group.
