The University's Chancellor is Mrs Bobbie Brazil, BA LLB LLM UQ, GradDipLT QUT

Role

The Chancellor leads the governing body of the University, the Council. Members of the Council, representing University and community interests, contribute to the overall governance of the University by helping to set strategic directions and develop policy.

Background

Mrs Brazil has previously served on the Third and Fourth Councils of the University, during which time she served as Deputy Chancellor. She has made an important contribution to education, the community and resource management, bringing extensive experience in areas central to leading the University's governing body. Mrs Brazil has practiced as a lawyer in Toowoomba and is a partner in successful broad-scale dryland and irrigation farming businesses on the Darling Downs and in the Northern Territory. She has held numerous positions on councils and committees from ministerial to local level, with particular focus on education, industry and resource management issues. In 2001, Mrs Brazil was awarded the Centenary of Federation Medal for distinguished service to education, particularly for her work as Deputy-Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland.
