Events
Residents enjoy a variety of social activities individual to each college- Concannon, McGregor and Steele Rudd, and within the entire college community.
The Welcome and Inauguration Dinner
The Colleges have a combined welcome dinner held usually in the second week of the Semester, to welcome all new and returning students. It is also the occasion to officially install the Executive of the Resident Students' Club for each College and to award the Vice-Chancellor's Academic Prizes for Excellence in academic achievement during the previous year. These are semi-formal dinners which means dress is smart casual.
Semi-formal Dinner
In addition to the Welcome and Inauguration Dinner, a semi-formal dinner is held in first semester. Sometimes there is a guest speaker, and usually a musical item or some other entertainment is provided by the students.
Formal Dinner
The Formal Dinner is a formal black tie occasion. It is organised by the RSC's to say farewell to final year students and to conclude the year's social events. The decor and theme usually reflect considerable imagination and effort on the part of the organisers and is a particularly significant occasion in the social calendar.
Gala Charity Dinner
The Gala Charity Dinner is held each year and raises funds for charity organisations. This event is organised by the Charity Committee and there is usually a theme which adds to the fun of the evening.
Valedictory Dinner
This is a semi-formal dinner sponsored by the Colleges to say farewell to its final year students who live in College. This event is normally attended by the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Senior Officers of the University, members of the Concannon College Council and final year students. It is however, an occasion which departing students have the opportunity to invite their parents and special friends to share with them.
Informal Occasions
Several informal events are organised by the RSC's during the year.
A licensed bar is operated by the Student Guild on behalf of the RSC's.
These are a weekend of fun organised by the RSC. They usually involve a smorgasbord dinner and party on the Saturday night, organised games and activities, talent quest etc, a chicken and champagne breakfast on Sunday morning followed by a BBQ lunch.
A day of Golf on Saturday is organised by the Concannon College RSC. Usually there is a party incorporated at the course. Touch Football and a BBQ is arranged for the Sunday.
Sport and Inter-College Competition - The Residential Colleges Shield
The Residential Colleges Shield competition is organised and conducted each year for the Colleges by the University Student Guild. The competition includes activities such as debating, volley ball, touch football, rugby league, tennis and the Quad Race. A perpetual shield, which is awarded by the Guild is presented to the College achieving the highest aggregate points for the competition.
A Spirit Cup and Cultural Cup are also competed for by each College.
