College lifeLiving on-campus is an exciting and rewarding way to enhance university life through interaction with Australian and international students via academic, sporting, cultural and social events. Academic LifeThe USQ Residential Colleges provide an environment in which students are encouraged to achieve their full potential. To assist students the USQ Residential Colleges provides its own Tutorial Program that supplements the tutorials offered by the University. A number of scholarships and bursaries are also offered each academic year. Formal academic events are held each year including the Concannon Oration and Professorial lectures held by Mcgregor and Steele Rudd Colleges. Residents participate in these events as well as being part of the academic procession, for which academic gowns are provided. These events are also attended by senior staff of the University, including the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor and dignitaries from the community. Community LifeResidents are encouraged to look beyond the Colleges and be involved in community service. Groups within the Colleges have provided assistance with local community and charitable projects such as the Red Cross Door Knock, Cancer Appeal and Red Nose Day. Sporting LifeCollege members participate in a diverse range of sporting competitions at University level and inter-College level, through the Residential Shield. Each college has a special tradition which creates a friendly rivalry at various sporting events throughout the year, with the focus on participation and enjoyment. Pastoral CareThe Colleges are a supportive and caring community in which the academic, pastoral and social welfare of residents is ensured through a Collegiate team of Senior Resident Fellows, Resident Fellows and Resident Assistants living within the Colleges. The Senior Resident Fellows and Resident Fellows are normally postgraduate students with significant College and University experience who take an interest in all students. The Resident Assistants are primarily mature undergraduate students. They assist and take an active interest in the positive integration of students into all aspects of College and University life. Residential Assistants participate in an annual team training program which is completed prior to the commencement of Semester One each year. The College Handbook provides further information on College life and assistance available. The University 24 hour security service operates across the campus and other professional services are also available including medical assistance and personal counselling. Social LifeEach College has its own Resident Student Association who arrange formal and semi-formal dinners, informal social activities, College balls, dances, trips and inter-college events. The College Calendar details all of the College events for 2008. DiversityUSQ Residential College students are from diverse backgrounds. Through their participation in a variety of academic, community, cultural and sporting activities the Colleges have established a distinctive ethos.
