ICE – on the horizon (ICE 3, ThesICE, and other developments)
|
Monday, 23 November 2009
|
1.00 - 2.00pm |
Y390 |
Background The week of 23 - 27 November will be devoted to exploring future developments of ICE, the core, open source, ICT-supported word processor-based cross-media publishing system used at USQ.
At this session you are invited to collaboratively explore the following questions: 1. What can we learn from the ICE experience so far? 2. Which bits of ICE do you like / not like? 3. What should ICE version 3 look like? (If there is to be one - maybe there's a better way?)
You can register for this information session from the Professional Development site. |
Where is USQ in the Virtual World space?
|
Wednesday, 2 December 2009 |
12noon -1.00pm |
S107 computer lab |
This session will discuss where we have been in the virtual world space and propose future directions for USQ.
Background Over the past 2 years the uptake of 3D immersive technologies by higher education institutions has grown exponentially. At least 50% of Australian universities already have a presence in the virtual world of Second Life TM and many TAFE colleges and schools are also using this and other virtual worlds to enhance, enable and expand learning opportunities. Internationally thousands of universities are using these immersive learning environments to support learners at a distance as well as on campus.
The University of Southern Queensland has established a leadership role in Australia in the use of virtual worlds and has hosted a variety of virtual events and mixed reality events such as conferences, symposiums, a Graduate eCareers Fair, outreach events and galleries.
