Dr Sayan Chakrabarty

Dr Sayan Chakrabarty Dr. Sayan Chakrabarty is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Australian Digital Futures Institute (ADFI), Australian Centre for Sustainable Business and Development, Toowoomba, Queensland. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow he is in charge of the research project “Use of Technology in Higher Education: An Assessment from Socio-Economic Perspectives “.

He served as a Professor and Head, Department of Economics at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses on Labour Economics, Development Economics, Microeconometrics, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.

Sayan's doctoral thesis at the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn Germany examines some specific International Labour Standards related to WTO (social standards) in the developing countries (Bangladesh, India and Nepal).

His research includes Economics of Education, Human Capital Development, Microfinance, Energy and Labour Economics. He won research projects and consultancies from the World Bank, International Labour Office (ILO, Geneva), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Germany.

The most noticeable awards, fellowship and scholarships he received are: Vice chancellor's award in Social Science and Business for outstanding research performance (SUST, Bangladesh); University Grants Commission (UGC) award in Social Science, Bangladesh; award from the State Department, USA; Carlo-Schmid Fellowship (ILO, Geneva); DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Scholarship.
