Sri Lankan alumni celebrate peace
The USQ Sri Lanka Alumni Chapter acknowledged and celebrated their country's new found peace in their first official get-together (photos).
Held on Friday 29 May, the theme of the formal part of the evening was ‘End of war; Peace dividends'. Chapter President, Mr Deepal Abeysekara introduced the three eminent guest speakers: Dr Sirimal Abeyratne (Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, University of Colombo), Mr Jeevan Thiagarajah (Director General, Consortium of Humanitarian Associations) and Mr Surein Peiris (Deputy Director, International Red Cross). Each gave speeches on various aspects related to the topic, including economics, welfare and government support.
Mr Premasiri Ratnayake, Chapter General Secretary, was extremely pleased with the numbers attending and the atmosphere of the evening.
‘The get-together meeting was a grand success with over 70 members gathering to hear the guest speakers and networking amongst themselves,' he said.
Following the speeches, Mr Abeysekara presented USQ lapel pins to acknowledge members who have obtained life membership of the Chapter.
