About us

Prof Peter Goodall,
Dean (Faculty of Arts)

The Faculty of Arts offers a unique opportunity for students to study across the areas of Humanities, Communication and Creative Arts.

The Faculty covers a wide range of studies including traditional areas such as Anthropology, History, Literature, Drama and Languages, to vocational areas such as Journalism, Public Relations and Counselling (Human Services), and in performance and creative practice areas such as Creative Media, Music, Multimedia, Acting and Visual Arts.  Students are encouraged to combine theory and practice, analysis and creativity, study and experimentation.

Most of the staff working across the School of Creative Arts and the School of Humanities and Communication are based at USQ's Toowoomba campus but the Faculty contributes also to the Bachelor of Applied Media program at the Springfield campus, and to the Bachelor of Human Services program at the Fraser Coast campus.  Wherever they are, and whether you study on campus or via distance programs, you will find the academic and the professional staff enthusiastic and helpful.

USQ Art Collection

The USQ Art Collection has been developed to provide a permanent collection of high quality contemporary Australian art works to contribute to the educational enterprise of the University and the cultural experiences of its members and those of the wider community. The collection numbers more than 550 items comprising works-on-paper, painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, textiles, mixed media and ceramics.

Responsibility for the USQ Art Collection was given to the Arts Faculty in 1999 with Visual Arts academic staff being assigned curatorial responsibility on a part-time basis. In 2008 the University assumed funding responsibility for the collection with curation remaining an academic responsibility within the School of Creative Arts.

Elements of the collection are currently exhibited throughout the University's several campuses. Application can normally be made to borrow and exhibit USQ Art Collection items on a renewable loan basis. Loans will normally be assessed by the Curator, having regard to a range of environmental, commercial and security considerations. Please bear in mind that loan transport costs are a campus responsibility.
