USQ/QTC Playwrights Commission

The University of Southern Queensland has joined forces with the Queensland Theatre Company (QTC) to launch an exciting new play commission competition open to female playwrights for a new theatrical work with nationally significant themes. USQ is the second oldest actor training institution in Australia (behind NIDA) and boasts a unique mix of practice and theory that produces graduates who are award-winning collaborative theatre artists.

The selected recipient will receive a $15,000 commission, which includes: 

    •     travel to USQ Toowoomba campus 
    •     creative development opportunities with USQ and QTC 
    •     potential main-stage production with QTC in the 2013 or 2014 season

Are you eligible to apply?

To apply for this commission you must: 

    •     be an established female playwright with professional or broadcast production background 
    •     have idea of new theatrical work that has nationally significant themes 
    •     submit a play between 6 and 12 characters with double casting, with a high recommendation for youth specific ages

How to apply

To be considered for the playwrights commission, please submit: 

    •     a character breakdown and a one page plot and style synopsis which includes a target market brief 
    •     your CV, clearly demonstrating your ability to meet the expectations of the creative development process
