Research Funding

Eligibility for funding

  • Faculty staff holding at least a .5 fractional appointment 
  • Faculty staff holding Teaching and Scholarship positions - for research in pedagogy related to their teaching. This research must have reportable outcomes – no funding will be approved for the generation of curriculum materials.
  • Postgraduate students undertaking a major research/creative project as a required part of their award 
  • Honours students are NOT eligible for funding, and may wish to consult their School Head for assistance.

Criteria used in assessing applications

  • The potential to make a significant conceptual advance, or an important discovery or innovation, or for creative and practical outcomes, and/or applications of social, cultural, economic and professional value.
  • The relevance and viability of the proposed methodology and timetable.
  • The suitability and accuracy of the proposed budget (please note that there may be funding caps for a current year).
  • The potential of the research to support future applications for external research funding and/or result in DEST recognized outcomes in appropriate cases.

Deadlines

Applications will receive consideration only when they are received by the stated deadlines, are fully and carefully completed on the correct application form and include attachments. If no deadline is stated, applications are to be received by the Executive Officer by the 15th of each month.

Funding

The investigator will be required to expend all funds within a period of twelve months, the commencing date being one month after the receipt of the funding approval letter. Normally, an extension beyond this date will only be considered upon application to the Committee.

Progress report

As a part of the Committee's monitoring, the investigator will submit a report on the progress/status of the funded research by the annual October meeting of the Research and Research Degrees Committee. The investigator is expected to make, within a reasonable time period, a presentation of their research outcomes (e.g. seminar, exhibition, performance etc). Outcomes are to be reported to the Faculty of Arts annual research and scholarship audit. It is expected that the outputs of funded research will be disseminated to the Faculty and the wider community through such activities as seminar presentations, performances, exhibitions, the Research and Scholarship homepage, and, possibly, occasional papers. It is expected that the source of funding is acknowledged in any outcomes and that the publication be lodged with USQ ePrints as soon as possible.

Carry over of funds

A carry over of funding form must be completed in October each year by all applicants to request the carryover of unexpended funds to the next calendar year.

Final report and acquittal form

final report and acquittal form is to be completed by all applicants to report acquittal of funds and notify the Committee when the project is complete.  An email should be sent to the Faculty Research Administrator authorising the return of any remaining funds to the Committee.
