Main objectiveThe Public Memory Centre’s core research objective is to investigate the ways in which the past is archived, understood and utilised by contemporary societies. The Centre undertakes research which is internationally and nationally significant in quality; but it is also interested in local and regional opportunities, affirming the University’s service commitments to the cultural life of its region. Centre programsEuropean Perspectives; Indigenous Memories: This program investigates the ways in which European perspectives recollect specific versions of the indigenous past. Arts of Recollection: This program investigates the roles that the imagination, subjectivity and material artefacts play in recollection, memory and history. Media, Memory and Mythology: This program investigates the links between history, memory, and myth, in public and private spheres and pursues a special interest in the role of different cultural forms and media institutions. Diasporic Memories: This program looks at the links between memory and identity in migrant and multicultural communities.
