Katie McConnel - Research Historian, Museum of Brisbane
Honorary Research Fellow, University of Queensland

"Oddly enough, when I started my Bachelor of Arts at USQ I had no real plan or intention to study Australian or Queensland history, yet today it is the focus of my work as the Historian at the Museum of Brisbane. It was my enrolment in an introductory history subject that activated my passion for history and opened up a new career path. Captivated by the fascinating, remarkable and dark elements of our national and local history, I was driven to further study - Honours and Doctorate of Philosophy. My studies have propelled me along an interesting and varied path as a university lecturer, author, researcher for Native Title and my position at MoB. Here I have worked on a diverse range of exhibitions from Brisbane Buddha's to Cultivating Eden: 150 Years of the Old Brisbane Botanic Gardens. Each new exhibition offers a new way to look at, revel in and value our history."
