Hello, I’m Simon Mee. I’m the University of Southern Queensland’s collections curator and I’m also the Lecturer in Arts Management which is going to be Gallery Studies.

Gallery Studies is something that every artist and potential curator should do because it is a way to become savvy about the industry. It is easy to think, “Wow I’m just going to go out there and become an artist” but what galleries do you approach, what kinds of galleries do you approach, how do you approach them? If you want to be a curator, what kind of art do you want to curate?

That’s why you do Gallery Studies. A lot of artists do both. You end up working on projects and then you end up working in galleries and that’s why I hope to see more of you. It is an external subject but that doesn’t mean that can’t contact me. I’m very easily contactable through phone and email and I’m always happy to talk.
