An Arty Day at the Races
Whether you follow the form, are thrilled by the chance to dress up and put on a hat, or just love a great day out with friends, the USQ Artsworx ‘Tracking the Arts’ Race Day promises to be a winner.
Billed as an ‘arty day at the races’, the event features a full afternoon of racing complemented by live entertainment with a difference; fashion and costume parade by USQ Designer, Carolyn Taylor-Smith; and prizes and auctions galore.
Artsworx Manager, Dr Rebecca Scollen said that their goal has been to present a great day out – with a difference.
“We love the opportunity to showcase our industry, encouraging others to embrace and support the Arts.
“At Artsworx, we strive to deliver a range of high quality and innovative arts experiences to the community - many of which feature the University’s Creative Arts students - but as a not-for-profit organisation, we are faced with the challenge of mounting these with limited resources.
“Race Day is our key fundraising activity for the year, with proceeds from the day going towards the 2012 season, assisting in the production of events such as the Shakespeare in the Park Festival, Exhibition Series and Children's Theatre Week.
“Our guests on the day will not only be treated to a showcase of talent, but will also be directly supporting emerging artists in our local region.
This year, Race Day organisers have sourced an excellent selection of leisure, pamper and collectable items for the auctions including original jewellery by Brisbane-based artist, Marisa Molin; an original hat by renowned milliner, Rae Copeland; sporting memorabilia and a host of entertainment and styling packages.
“Our live entertainment will feature USQ musicians and singers together with a special guest appearance by well-known Australian artist and popular McGregor School tutor, Donald James Waters.
“Guests will be treated to the opportunity to watch a master at work as Donald paints a masterpiece throughout the course of the day, with the final artwork auctioned during the evening.”
True to race day tradition, fashions on the field will be judged and prizes awarded to best-dressed lady, best dressed man, best hat and best shoes.
The ‘Tracking the Arts’ Race Day commences at 3.30 for 4pm on Saturday 10 March in the Grand Marquee at Clifford Park.
Tickets are $65 each or $600 for tables of ten and include complimentary drink on arrival, delicious 2-course meal and a ticket in the lucky door prize.
Bookings can be made through the USQ Artsworx Box Office on 07 4631 1111.
