Enjoy the sultry sounds of traditional and modern Brazilian music when Brisbane-based quintet, The View from Madeleine's Couch opens the 2012 Twilight Series.
The ensemble's contemporary world sounds are influenced by the rich musical traditions of Brazil; the beautiful, intricate harmony of Brazilian jazz, the sweet and plangent melodies of early 20th century chorinho music, and the lilting, hypnotic rhythms of samba, baiao and bossa nova.
Amongst their original compositions (including award-nominated and award-winning tunes), there are some classic Brazilian gems from composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Dorival Caymii and Baden Powell.
There is a sense of delight and worldliness in their music, which transports you from the opening notes, to a sublime hideaway of palm trees and sea breezes.
