Pre-show Activities and Theatre Etiquette
Before you attend the performance with your students, you might like to do a some pre-show activities.
Ask your students what they think a dream encompasses? Is it all about good things that happen to them, or do bad things happen as well? Using butcher's paper and drawing equipment, ask your students to draw their interpretation of a dream. After this, ask if any of them would like to elaborate on their ideas of a dream, and possibly, what they dream about.
For secondary school students, ask the students to split into groups of four. Students are then asked to devise a scene (maximum of a minute) depicting their interpretation of a dream. Students should collaborate as a group, taking each other's ideas first and then quickly developing the scene.
When you attend a live performance it is important to respect the performers, stage crew and fellow audience members. Please remind your students to:
-
not go on the stage at any time,
-
keep the isles clear throughout the performance,
-
not eat or drink inside the auditorium,
-
turn off mobile phones and not take photos during the show,
-
visit the toilet before the show,
-
try not to bump or kick the seat in front of them, and
-
not talk loudly during the show.
But most importantly, sit back and relax, and let the actors entertain you!
