Theatre etiquette
Whether children have been to a theatre show before or not, there are a few things which should be discussed to ensure an enjoyable show for everyone.
Before the show
Go to toilet before the show - it can be distracting to have people moving around during the show so make sure the kids visit the bathroom before the show. Toilets are located within the Arts building - just ask an usher for directions.
Turn mobile phones off.
Don’t bring in any food or drinks – food and drinks are not permitted in the Arts Theatre. If children have brought food with them, please leave it with the Front of House Manager at the door.
Behaviour - don’t leave your seat unless instructed by a teacher or usher. Please don’t go onto the stage or sit in the aisles during the show. Sitting in the aisles could be dangerous in the event of a fire and going on stage can be hazardous for the actors and children.
Don’t kick the seats in front of you – please keep your hands and feet to yourselves to ensure that everyone enjoys the experience.
No cameras or recording devices are permitted to be used during the show.
The theatre will be dark at points in the show, if there are any problems please contact an usher.
There are some 'naughty words' in the play such as ‘poo’ and ‘bum’.
The Ushers are there for you! If there is any problems then feel free to summon them.
At the end of the performance applause is entirely appropriate – let the actors know what you think of them by clapping loudly!
After the Show
Please do not go onto the stage. Follow directions by ushers to leave the theatre. You may be able to meet some of the characters from the show in the foyer!
