Mask

The use of mask in this production of Mother Courage and Her Children aims to accentuate features of the characters and to clearly show the reality of the pain and age of these characters.

The actors in the cast are young and would not fully represent the depth of the characters. The masks help to convey the message more clearly and to show the emotion underneath each character.

The faces of characters who have lived a difficult life, filled with pain and hardship are better presented through the mask and the grotesque, unnatural exaggeration of the characters and what they represent.

The latex masks also give the actors an opportunity to reflect upon their character and how they belong in the metaphor and lesson of the play.
