Synopsis: What's Zac the Hero about?

Heroes, fairies, princesses; sounds like your usual ‘Once upon a time' fairytale. Well this one has a twist.

The hero in this case is Zac, your typical, six-year-old, Aussie schoolboy, with "two arms, two legs and a reasonably un-ugly head". With not much to worry about except girls, bullies and the occasional homework, this young boy is your least likely hero. Yet when fairyland is in crisis, three fairies rock up on his bedside to convince him that he is the hero they've been searching for (well, they've been through the rest of the alphabet and Zac is all there is left!). Emmy asks Zac to play Spin with her and Zac goes into a state of total nervousness. Suddenly he is being taunted by bullies saying "Zac likes Emmy, Zac likes Emmy!" Not liking to be bullied Zac, being a typical Aussie boy, reacts by pushing his friend Emmy away because he doesn't know how else to deal with the situation.  So one thing leads to another and before he knows what's happening, Zac is spiralling towards Fairyland unaware of the adventure that awaits him. Meanwhile, a documentary team are keen to make a piece on the typical day in the life of an Aussie schoolboy. It seems they have picked a not so typical schoolboy on a not so typical day! So the Doco's follow Zac on his journey to Fairyland.

In Fairyland, Zac and the audience are introduced to the wild and whacky characters of this magical world. The fairies need a hero to save their princess from the wicked Potty Pants and his army of penguins, and they have run out of options, Zac is their last resort. After he goes to bed that night, the fairies come to Zac and propose their problem to him. Zac comes face to face with Elga, her pet Yupuppy and Elga's pot scrubbing girl Kaylian who warn him to go back before Hoppletoff Potty Pants gets wind that they have brought a 'human' into the land. Too late! The penguins arrive – the "much larger source behind the powerful entity" of Potty Pants. Thus begins the chase. Kaylian, the young girl living with Elga, and Zac manage to escape and the penguins are not happy. But who are they after, Zac or Kaylian?

The Doco's then take the audience into the past, where Hoffy Potty-Pants is first discovered as a small, hairless creature who, by being the king's companion for 10 years, succeeds in killing him and taking reign of fairy land. Back in the present, Zac and Kaliana are trying to cross a pond to reach safety, however Zac hesitates and Kaliana is kidnapped by the penguins. Zac must finish a quest to help the land's princess and this is where the Mothman comes in to give Zac the prophecy of his venture! But can he even speak English? And how exactly is Zac supposed to catch the rage of the sun and tears of the moon? This typical, six year old schoolboy must work it out before it is too late! Will the falling people help him, or distract him? Will Potty Pants marry the princess? And will Zac be able to cross the bridge, covered in snail slime, moss and bird spit, without falling into the bottomless pit below? Well you'll just have to watch the play to find out!!!!
