The School of Accounting, Economics & Finance and its predecessors have had a long tradition of excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate education in commerce and related fields, delivered on-campus in Toowoomba and Springfield, or by distance education and on-line modes. The School engages in applied research and scholarship, and maintains close links with the professions, government and industry.
The School of Accounting, Economics & Finance is one of the largest Schools in the Faculty of Business and Law. It offers professionally accredited programs, both undergraduate and postgraduate, incorporating flexible studies in:
Our primary undergraduate program is the Bachelor of Commerce degree. It offers majors in accounting, business law, economics, and finance. The accounting major is accredited by CPA Australia, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, and the National Institute of Accountants. The finance major is accredited by the Financial Services Institute of Australasia. These majors provide membership of these professional bodies and a wide range of career opportunities in the fields of Accounting, Economics and Finance.
Graduates from within Australia and overseas who wish to become accountants may study the Master of Professional Accounting, which is also accredited by the professional accounting bodies. Accounting graduates who need to 'top-up' their qualifications to meet professional body requirements may complete a Graduate Certificate in Commerce to achieve this objective. Graduates in commerce-related fields have the opportunity to extend their qualifications by studying the Master of Business, specialising in areas such as Accounting & Sustainable Business, Applied Finance, Business Forensics, Commercial Law/Insolvency, and Personal Financial Planning. Further opportunities for postgraduate coursework and research degrees are available.
