Toowoomba Regional Council - Assistant English Teachers
Toowoomba Regional Council over the past thirty years has developed three Sister City relationships:
- Takatsuki in Japan,
- Paju in South Korea, and
- Wanganui in New Zealand (North Island).
The purpose of these relationships is not only to enhance cultural exchange between the cities, but to also to promote and foster strong business opportunities.
As a result of these relationships, a variety of programs of exchange has been developed, with Toowoomba hosting several delegations throughout the year and with many opportunities for Toowoomba Region residents to visit our Sister Cities. Through these exchanges our community is much richer for the experience.
One of these exchanges is the Assistant English Teacher position with Takatsuki, Japan. Takatsuki City Council appoints eight Toowoomba Region people holding tertiary qualifications (of any discipline) as Assistant English Teachers for a 12-month period from April each year. The purpose of the position is to assist the Japanese English Teachers to teach listening, speaking and reading English skills to Takatsuki elementary students. The position is also an ambassador of Toowoomba. It is not a requirement to be fluent in Japanese but it would be an advantage.
The position pays 19,200¥ per working day ($243 AUD). No entitlements are paid for holidays or sick leave. An average yearly salary (based on 198 working days) would be approximately ¥3,801,600. ($48,130)* Apartments are available to rent.
