Welcome to the Engineering Statics Home Pages
From here you should be able to access lecture notes, tutorial sheets, and assignment sheets.
Note that these are written primarily for internal on-campus students, although external students may find them helpful as supplement to their own study program and the study package.
Memo to External Students (Sent to all external students during September)
Weeks 10 and 11 are Residential School for external students and Recess for internal enrolments.
Week 12 (Lect 10) - Tutorial 10
Week 13 (Lect 11) - Tutorial 11
Week 14 (Lect 12) - Tutorial 12
Owing to the time constraints, external students are only expected to attempt two assignments of six questions each. These assignments are each worth 15% and are printed in the Engineering Statics Introductory Book which is part of the study package. As I believe shorter, more-frequent assignments are educationally superior, internal students will be expected to complete four 4-question assignments for the same 30% of assessment. These are attached below. External students are invited to complete and submit these, either for practice or for alternative assessment (if they can make the due dates).
Assignment 1A - Due Friday 9 August 2002
Assignment 1B - Due Friday 30 August 2002
Assignment 2A - Due Friday 20 September 2002
Assignment 2B - Due Friday 25 October 2002
Formula Sheet for 2002 exam [Unfortunately, I have found a couple of errors and omissions on the formula sheets, i.e. On page1, h and b have been interchanged on the diagram of a triangle, and P has been written in place of F in the formulae for Young's modulus and Energy. On page 2, the letters A (left hand end), B (right hand end and C (mid-span) have been left off the diagrams. No errata sheet will be issued at the exam as you should be competent enough in the subject to recognize these errors.]
If you have any queries, I may be contacted at USQ on Phone (07) 4631 1484, and by email at wintera@usq.edu.au. Although I am only employed half time, I am at USQ for part of every working day and am located in room Z317.1
Finally, I wish you success in this course and in your whole engineering program, and I hope that the statics course we have prepared for you will give you a clear and adequate foundation for your subsequent engineering studies.
