SYNOPSIS:

This is the final studio practice course. As such it is the culmination of the sequence of studio based practice. It is normally a co-requisite with course VIS 3026 Exhibition and Documentation.


OBJECTIVES:

On successful completion of this course students will:

  • have appropriate professional skills, knowledge of materials and their appreciation;

  • have an understanding of the aesthetic, historical and theoretical background to their preferred studies;

  • achieve an appropriate level of creative ability;

  • have the ability to critically evaluate their own arts practice in relation to a wider cultural context.

    Assessment Details Description: Presentation of a body of work by each student including supportive drawings, journals, graphics, etc as recommended by lecturing staff. This will normally take the form of an individual exhibition.

    IMPORTANT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

    1. Attendance requirements:
      It is the student's responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (lectures, studio workshops, critiques, etc) scheduled for them and to study all material required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the course objectives and being informed of course related activities and administration.
    2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
      Students are expected to complete all requirements to pass the course. Students must be in attendance at the end of semester assessment to discuss their work. Final assessment will involve a staff panel and an external advisor who is a professional practising artist/visual arts academic/noted arts worker. Their written comments will be placed on each student's file and will be accessible to students after the results are published.
    3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
      Students who fail to present their work for the final studio assessment without prior approval or without extenuating circumstances will forfeit the right to assessment and will fail the course.
    4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
      To be assured of a passing grade, students must demonstrate that they have achieved the required minimum standards in relation to the course objectives by obtaining at least a grade of C - as moderated by the team of assessors.
    5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
      The final grade for students will be the average of the grade recommended by each assessor at moderation.
    6. Examination information:
      There is no exam for this course.
    7. Examination period when Deferred/Supplementary examinations will be held:
      Not applicable

    ASSESSMENT NOTES

    9.(a) On the due date of assessment and by the appointed time the student must have arranged a display of the semester's work in the appointed space and be in attendance to discuss the work. (b) In accordance with the University's Assignment Extension Policy (Regulation 5.6.1) the Head of Department may grant an extension of the assessment date, however this can only be done in extenuating circumstances due to the need to reappointment the external assessor. (c) At this, the final practical assessment for the program, students who have been adjudged by the assessment panel not to have met the objectives of the course will fail. (d) Students who for extraordinary health or family circumstances are unable to present for assessment at the due time may apply for deferment of assessment, accompanying the request with appropriate supporting documentation, in which an IDM may be granted and arrangements made for assessment at a future date.
