Computer-based multimedia allows us to present large amounts of information in ways that are at once efficient and captivating. These qualities contribute to growing enthusiasm for the use of multimedia in education. Tools and techniques used to create multimedia for non-educational purposes such as entertainment can be adapted to the production of educational multimedia. However, without careful attention to the educational design of the products and the settings in which they are used there is no assurance that such products will be educationally effective.
This course deals with a range of current issues associated with the design and development of educational multimedia, including the relationship of multimedia and learning, interactivity and navigation. It is designed around an online conference. Following some introductory reading and discussion, students will prepare a proposal for a conference paper. Proposals will be subjected to anonymous peer review before being developed into a full paper for presentation and discussion in the conference. Students will need to be prepared to read widely and to write at advanced graduate level. NOTES: 1. This course (FET8620) is available through INTERNET DELIVERY ONLY.
