RATIONALE:

This is the second course (by part-time mode) of the research component of the MVA and is designed to enable monitoring of progress.

SYNOPSIS:

This course will take the form of a presentation of a developing body of work in progress and includes an oral presentation and written component. This course is penultimate to the mid-program review and will enable critique of research progress and is concerned with the integration of the developmental aspects of theory and studio based research.

OBJECTIVES:

On completion of this course students will be able to:

1. demonstrate substantial progress on their chosen dissertation topic;
2. present a developing body of artwork relevant to the dissertation topic;
3. commence a thorough review of existing literature related to and contextualized with studio research for their chosen dissertation topic;
4. define and develop an exploration of methodology of research appropriate to their chosen dissertation topic.

IMPORTANT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

1. Attendance requirements:
   It is the student's responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such as lectures, tutorials, laboratories and practical work) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.
2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
   To complete each of the assessment items satisfactorily, students must obtain at least 50% of the marks available for each assessment item.
3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
   Not applicable.
4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
   Students will be required to present a comprehensive work in progress seminar including literature review, visual research methods and studio based research.
5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
   Students will be graded on a 'Pass', 'Incomplete', 'Fail' basis.
6. Examination information:
   There is no exam for this course.
7. Examination period when Deferred/Supplementary examinations will be held:
   Given the details under (6) above, there are no deferred exams for this course. However, if any deferred/makeup work is granted, it would have to be submitted by a date set by the examiner.
