SYNOPSIS

This course involves the development and implementation of a project. This practical part of the project builds on the literature review in the previous course. It normally involves data gathering and analysis based on a research proposal. Students could use an action learning strategy designed to achieve the aims of the project. The project aims to provide a set of career enhancing experiences for a student. The project will also provide general recommendations on aspects of organisational improvement to an organisation that is involved in the project. Enrolment in this course is subject to the availability of a supervisor.





OBJECTIVES

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. identify suitable research topics
  2. undertake independent research
  3. demonstrate appropriate communication skills
  4. report research outcomes.

IMPORTANT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

  1. Attendance requirements:
    If you are an international student in Australia, you are advised to attend all classes at your campus. For all other students, there are no attendance requirements for this course. However, it is the students' responsibility to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.
  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To complete the project satisfactorily, students must obtain at least 50% of the marks available for the project.
  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    Progress to be acceptable to the supervisor.
  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% for the project.
  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the marks obtained for the project.
  6. Examination information:
    There is no examination in this course. The completed project will normally be examined by the supervisor. Where a student is enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Research, the completed project will be examined by the supervisor and one other examiner, normally appointed from staff in the Faculty of Business. At least one of the examiners will hold a PhD qualification.
  7. Examination period when Deferred/Supplementary examinations will be held:
    Not applicable.
