RATIONALE

Pre-service teachers require first-hand experience in order to connect theory with practice. Making connections underpins an understanding of teaching and learning processes. Through placement in professional settings, early childhood pre-service teachers have first-hand opportunities to develop effective understandings of the decision making and actions required to optimise children's learning. Each professional experience builds upon previous experience and provides contexts whereby pre-service teachers can further develop their skills and understandings of the expectations and requirements of day to day teaching. The broader a pre-service teacher's knowledge of early years' classroom practices, the better informed he/she will be in formulating quality programs and appropriate learning and teaching experience for children.

SYNOPSIS

This course provides pre-service early childhood teachers with opportunities to apply their knowledge of teaching and learning in the early years of school. Students will be required to develop, implement and evaluate a range of learning and teaching opportunities. Capitalising on their scholarship, students will put into practice a range of experiences based upon theories developed during their study program. Students will examine their own ideas in order to appreciate the complexities of management, organisation and teaching in the early years' classroom.
