OTHER REQUISITES
State law in Queensland (Australia) requires that all adults working/undertaking professional experience/researching with children under the age of 18, in the state of Queensland are required to possess a current suitability card (Blue Card). (See "Other Requirements" for further information.) Also see: http://www.childcomm.qld.gov.au/employment/bluecard/informationSheets.htmlRATIONALE
It is recognized that many postgraduate and honours students need the opportunity to explore or investigate a topic of their own choosing in order to link more closely their professional interests or needs to their course of studies. Project units are designed to provide such an opportunity.
SYNOPSIS
Students will, under the guidance of a member of staff, pursue an in-depth study of a topic relevant to the field of education, and in particular to the focus of the student's major study area. The type of study does not necessarily involve research, but should include a substantial investigatory component leading to the submission of a written research report, material production or essay demonstrating comprehensive and detailed coverage of major concepts, issues, and research/professional literature. All student project proposals will be the subject of a critical review and final topics may be the result of extensive lecturer-student negotiation. However, honour students completing this course must complete research and must provide a final report following submission guidelines for honours.
OBJECTIVES
The course objectives define the student learning outcomes for a course. The assessment item(s) that may be used to assess student achievement of an objective are shown in parenthesis. On successful completion of the project the students will have:
- demonstrated the ability to plan, conduct and report on an investigation or other such scholarly activity focused on an issue or topic of significance in the field of education. (Project Proposal; Paper/Report)
