STAFFING
Moderator: Martin CrookREQUISITES
Pre-requisite: MUS2072RATIONALE
The development of practical musical ability is a fundamental part of any music course; performing ability in a solo situation is one of the individual's most important avenues for musical expression and the solo concerto (with accompaniment) is an excellent genre to develop this. Skill and experience in this genre is essential for students seeking a career path in the performing area.
SYNOPSIS
The course content will focus on the preparation and performance either of the remaining movement(s) from the solo concerto selected by the student in Concerto Studies 2, or of a movement or movements from another solo concerto.
OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of this course students will have:
- further advanced their standard of performance in their chosen field of practical study;
- increased their knowledge of the literature of music by the study of a major work from the concerto repertoire relevant to their chosen field of practical study;
- developed an understanding of the ensemble implications of concerto performance.

| 1. | REPERTOIRE 1.1. The remaining movement(s) of the approved major concerto from Concerto Studies 2 will form the basis for Concerto Studies 3. If two shorter works were chosen in place of a full-scale major concerto, then the work chosen for this course must be approved by the teacher and the Music Program Coordinator at the beginning of semester. 1.2. CLASS AND TEACHER CRITICISM OF STUDENT PERFORMANCE In addition to the normal weekly lesson, students are required to participate in Master Class and Concert Practice Classes as required by the teacher. 1.3. PERFORMANCE UNDER CONCERT HALL CONDITIONS Students are required to perform at campus Lunchtime Concerts and other performance outlets as required by the teacher and approved by the Head of Music. 1.4. PERFORMANCE UNDER EXAM CONDITIONS (i) All students are required to present themselves for periodic formal assessment. In place of the normal test with piano accompaniment, the student may apply to perform their concerto movt(s) in public with the USQ Orchestra by means of a special audition which will take place at the beginning of the relevant semester. Only applicants whose auditions are deemed to be of a sufficiently high standard will be selected for public performance with orchestra. This performance date will be advised by the Music Program Coordinator at the beginning of the relevant semester and will not necessarily fall within the official University assessment period. The balance of the Concerto will be performed with piano accompaniment and will form the basis of the end of semester test for the other semester. This test may take the form of a campus Lunchtime Concert with the consent of the Music Program Coordinator. | 100.00 |
