RATIONALE

Students undertaking research need to prepare, plan and implement their research proposal. This course allows students to do so.




SYNOPSIS

This course is the second of four dissertation courses. Students will implement their research design and begin collection and analysis of data.




OBJECTIVES

On successful completion of this course students will have:

  1. implemented their research design;
  2. commenced their data collection and analysis; and
  3. demonstrate that the implementation of their research proposal is progressing at a satisfactory rate in accordance with the learning contract.

IMPORTANT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

  1. Attendance requirements:
    It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such as Residential School, consultations with supervisor) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.
  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    SEMINAR - to gain the 1 mark for the seminar, students will present a seminar on their research proposal at the Residential School and discuss their progress with their supervisors at that time. SUPERVISOR'S REPORT - the student's supervisor is required to present a report to the Program Coordinator outlining the student's progress against the learning contract no later than the end of the first week of the examination period. If this indicates the student's progress is satisfactory, the student will be given the 1 mark for this report. If not, the Program Coordinator will discuss the supervisor's report with the student with a view to determining whether or not the student should continue in the program.
  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    If students submit an assessment item after the due date without prior approval of their supervisor, they may fail the course.
  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of a grade of SP, students must gain all three of the marks available. Otherwise, students will be given either a Failing grade or an Incomplete grade.
  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    Not relevant for this course.
  6. Examination information:
    There is no examination in this course.
  7. Examination period when Deferred/Supplementary examinations will be held:
    There will be no Deferred or Supplementary examinations in this course.

ASSESSMENT NOTES

9.The due date for an assignment is the date by which a student must despatch the assignment to the USQ. The onus is on the student to provide proof of the despatch date, if requested by the Examiner.
10.Students must retain a copy of each item submitted for assessment. This must be sent to USQ within 24 hours of receipt of request to do so by the Examiner.
11.The examiner may grant an extension of the due date of an assessment item in extenuating circumstances.
12.The Faculty will normally only accept assessment items that have been written, typed or printed on paper-based media.
13.The Faculty will NOT accept submission of assignments by facsimile.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  1. Students require an SP in this course before proceeding to the next course in their enrolment sequence in their program.
