RATIONALE

Students undertaking research need to prepare, plan and implement their research proposal. This course allows students to do so.




SYNOPSIS

This course is the third of four dissertation units. Students will refine their research proposal, implement their research design and collect data.




OBJECTIVES

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. finalise the collection of data for their research (Data Collection);
  2. analyse the data; (Data Analysis);
  3. demonstrate that the implementation of their research is progressing at a satisfactory rate and standard by presenting a preliminary report for their research to the Department of Nursing's Research and Higher Degrees Committee (Report).

IMPORTANT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

  1. Attendance requirements:
    It is the students' responsibility to participate actively in all classes scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximize their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration. Students will normally attend one four-day residential school per year of enrolment in the Master of Health course.
  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    Students must demonstrate progress in their research to their supervisor's satisfaction to gain the 1 mark available for Data Collection and Data Analysis. Students must submit a report on their research to the Department of Nursing's Research & Higher Degrees Committee. If the committee assesses the report as satisfactory the student will be given the 1 mark for the Report.
  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    Not Applicable.
  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    This course will be graded as SP (Satisfactory Progress), I (Incomplete) or F (Fail). To be awarded a grade of SP, students must gain the 1 mark available for each of the assessment items.
  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    A grade of SP is necessary for a student to be allowed to proceed to the next dissertation course.
  6. Examination information:
    There is no examination in this course.
  7. Examination period when Deferred/Supplementary examinations will be held:
    There will be no Deferred or Supplementary examinations in this course.

ASSESSMENT NOTES

9.The due date for an assignment is the date by which a student must despatch the assignment to the USQ. The onus is on the student to provide proof of the despatch date, if requested by the Examiner.
10.Students must retain a copy of each item submitted for assessment. If requested, students will be required to provide a copy of assignments submitted for assessment purposes. Such copies should be despatched to USQ within 24 hours of receipt of a request being made.
11.The examiner may grant an extension of the due date of an assignment in extenuating circumstances.
