REQUISITES

This program is focused on professional outcomes and it is imperative for students to have a grounding in both psychological skills such as, interviewing, assessment, counselling skills and a grounding in research skills. This course continues the professional preparation program.
SYNOPSIS
This course deals with the fundamental issues of research and professional skills. With respect to psychological research skills this course centres on the construction and conduct of simple experimental tasks. Students need to be able to create an experiment, test participants, record, score and analyse obtained data. With respect to professional skills development, this course starts the discussion upon diagnosis of psychological problems and corresponding treatment issues, particularly with respect to psychopharmacological and behavioural treatments. Work Integrated Learning continues with site visits which allows students the opportunities to examine the contexts in which psychologists work.
OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- create an experiment (Research Skills Competency Test);
- test participants in the experiment (Research Skills Competency Test);
- record, score and analyse data (Research Skills Competency Test);
- demonstrate an understanding of this issues involved in diagnosis (Professional Skills Competency Test);
- demonstrate an understanding of the basis of psychopharmacological and behavioural treatments (Professional Skills Competency Test);
- describe and compare the various contexts in which psychologists work (Site visits).

As P is the only passing grade available for this course, all students who are qualified for a passing grade as in Important Assessment Information 4 will be given a grade of P. Other students will be given either a Failing grade or an Incomplete grade. - Examination information:

ASSESSMENT NOTES
