RATIONALE
Knowledge of the role of art and illustration in both an historical and contemporary context, provides a framework in which to examine the media and techniques used by illustrators of children's books. Such knowledge and examination has the dual purpose of providing for a more critical and informed approach to firstly, the selection, prediction and reading of children's literature in educational contexts and secondly, to potential illustrators of children's picture books.
SYNOPSIS
The historical development and role of art and illustration in children's literature will be studied along with the media and techniques used by illustrators.
