Synopsis

The course examines the following: (1) an introduction to the concept of property development, (2) the range of markets involved in property development, (3) the stages through which property development takes place, (4) land use and the role of town planning, (5) the multiple layers of government and their implications for property development, (6) an examination of ecological and broader environmental issues, (7) organisational structures suitable for property development, (8) site selection and project design, (9) principles of property construction processes, (10) procurement processes in the development of property assets, (11) marketing of property developments and (12) management of property assets. The course is structured to provide a broad overview of the processes associated with property development, and is not designed to provide a high level of financial and/or construction skills. The course does not require any prior study of property, but does require students to develop basic spreadsheet skills in carrying out simple financial cash flow analyses.
