Synopsis

This course seeks to develop a more detailed understanding of how certain mediums for physical activity are constructed, applied and maintained in the primary and secondary school settings. This course builds on the pre-service teachers' earlier exposure to the foundations of delivery in physical activity (EDO2461), and seeks to develop their analytical understanding of the consequences of certain pedagogical models through which the core learning outcomes are traditionally attained. As part of the physical education specialisation students will be encouraged to challenge the traditional anglo-saxon model commonly associated with school physical activity at the P-10 level and to develop knowledge that quantifies alternative initiatives that are suitable for use within games, aquatics and school carnival activities. Such practices will be based on the principles of social justice through which core learning outcomes from the Queensland 1-10 health and physical education syllabus may be explored.
