Synopsis
In a world of rapid change and narrow specialization it is useful to develop a long-term perspective on the course of human history on a world, rather than a regional or national scale. This course, following World Civilizations to 1500CE, focuses on key developments in world history from 1492 to 1914, especially the rise of European empires and their interaction with the world from the Age of Discovery to the First World War. Its approach will emphasise world-systems theory, international relations, and globalization. The course is particularly suited to Education students and is ideal as a general elective.
