Cultural Catchments

Throughout 2007 the Cultural Catchments program has encompassed project areas that has continued to build on community partnerships developed in 2006.

Dirranbandi DVD Project

Dirranbandi DVD Project - in May 2007, four USQ facilitators travelled to Dirranbandi to conduct a three day film making process with a group of year 6-10 Dirranbandi State School students. Over the three days the students developed film making skills to create a film about their lives in their community. The process culminated in a formal viewing of the films by the entire school and staff. The school carried out the project as a part of their centenary celebrations for next year.

Special Forever

Special Forever project - in term two 2007, a group of USQ students assisted Coleen Dunn with facilitating a Special Forever project at St George State School. Special Forever is a river based project that has run throughout the country for many years, using art and creative writing to explore the importance of the river and natural environment. USQ was able to work with the school to introduce a new energy to the project through theatre based workshops with the assistance of QMDC.

Mailbox Plays

Mailbox Plays - in term four 2007, USQ student Matt Armstrong has carried out a project entitled Mailbox Plays. Working with years 6-10 at Dirranbandi State School and year 10 students at St George State School, the project is based on a play building process. The students were involved in workshops over a series of weeks to build a collage drama piece about their community. The project culminated in a cultural exchange between the two school when the plays were performed in a community presentation.

Oral histories

Robyn Stewart has continued work within the community through a series of focus groups and interviews. Many members of the community in St George and Dirranbandi have taken part in the groups, discussing their community and contributing a cultural audit.
