Dirran DVD
Dirranbandi DVD Time Capsule Project
Janet Austen, Principal Dirranbandi State School
3 Day film project (9, 10, 11 May 2007)
Part of the QMDC/USQ Cultural Catchments Project
Purpose
-
to create one or more digital 'films' on DVD for the school's time capsule
-
based on the 'Shoot Out Festival' model (preparation, filming, judging)
-
use of in-camera editing to help move the process
-
constraints on the project will be given to students as a guide to building their films from planning undertaken by the USQ team prior to the residency (length, material, items to be included, signage, use of QMDC material).
Resources
USQ provided 1-3 cameras for in-camera editing, specific media personnel and other software/hardware to Dirranbandi for the duration of this project. The USQ team made use of Dirranbandi school computers to aid in the project throughout the 3 day residency. Post production work was undertaken at USQ (such as copying films onto DVDs) and then sent back to the school for use in time capsule or archiving.
Personnel
Dr Janet McDonald (Pedagogic coordinator and advisor)
Travelling personnel:
Carley Commens (QMDC Project Research Assistant and Administrator)
Christie Tickell (USQ Theatre PhD student)
Ari Palani (Senior Drama and Theatre Studies student)
David Tilbury (Media Technical Advisor)
Considerations
Ethical Clearance was obtained from students' parents to be photographed and/or digitally (audio and video) recorded for use in archiving of the project and giving back to the school.
Dirranbandi State School and USQ Creative Communities/QMDCs are co-authors and co-owners of the final product (copies kept by all parties).
Liaison for the project was with Jen Purcel and the project was undertaken with students from Years 6-10 (approximately 13 students).
We worked with the Green Group which is 18 kids from Yrs 6-10. We divided them into 3 manageable groups of 6 for this event.
