The findings of this study have highlighted in particular the plight of the ageing carer. The anxiety and fear they have for themselves in their ability to carry out their role as a carer and for the person they care for who resides in a community that offers them little or no support for their future needs.

The study has also provided evidence that currently in Toowomba and contiguous shires there is a worrisome lack of suitable, available supported accommodation for people, aged over 18 years and older with an intellectual disability.
