Biomedical Science
What is Biomedical Science?
Biomedical scientists aim to understand the principles that govern the functioning of the human body. The scientists undertake research that improves our understanding of the cellular mechanisms underlying disease processes, as well as seeking to discover new strategies for the prevention and treatment of human diseases. We train future research scientists in the investigation of human function in health and disease at the molecular, cellular, organ and whole body levels.
Researchers within the Centre have made significant advances in understanding the prevention and treatment of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, infectious diseases, sepsis and acute respiratory inflammatory diseases.
Our project areas include:
- Acute Respiratory Inflammation
- Diabetes
- Obesity
- Osteoporosis
- Recombinant Vaccines
- Sepsis
