Applying for deferred exams

A deferred examination for a course may be offered to you if you could not attend an exam for:

  • medical reasons
  • family/personal reasons
  • employment related reasons.

If you are granted a deferred exam you will receive an IDS grade for that course until you are able to sit the exam. Deferral of an existing deferred or supplementary examination is not permitted.

Please note that under no circumstances will misreading the exam timetable be acceptable grounds for deferring your exam.

To apply to defer your exam, submit a request via AskUSQ attaching an Application for Deferred Examination form (PDF*285 KB) including supporting documentation. You must submit your request and supporting documentation to your faculty within 10 days of the examination. If you are unable to attach documentation to your request, you may post it to the Faculty (refer application form) to be received by the Faculty within 10 days of the examination. Please note that you may be requested to post your original supporting documentation to USQ within 10 days from such a request being made.

Deferring for medical reasons

If you need to defer your exam for a medical reason, a USQ Medical Certificate (PDF*184KB) must be completed by a medical practitioner for the date of the exam and included with your request. Please note that if you sit an exam whilst ill, you will not be permitted to apply for a deferred examination.

Deferring for family/personal reasons

If you are applying for a deferred examination for family/personal reasons, supporting documentary evidence from a medical practitioner, counsellor or another such member of the community must be included with your request.

Deferring for employment related reasons

If your application for deferred examination is for employment related reasons, a statement from your employer (in English) indicating that you cannot be released from work to sit your examination must be supplied and included with your request.
