Results legend and glossary

To receive a final grade for a course, a student must be enrolled in a course as a student of the University and receive the grade on the basis of the work undertaken while enrolled in the course.  For a complete explanation of grades please consult USQ's Assessment policy.

HD - High Distinction 

IIP - Incomplete, Progress in future semester will determine grade 

A - Distinction 

IS - Incomplete (Supplementary exam) 

B - Credit 

IM - Incomplete (Make-up work)

C - Pass 

ISM - Incomplete (Supplementary exam and make-up work) 

P - Ungraded Pass 

IDS - Incomplete (Deferred examination) 

D - Conceded Pass 

IDB - Incomplete (Deferred work and examination) 

F - Fail 

IDM - Incomplete (Deferred assignment submission)

 FLW - Fail (Late withdrawal) 

Administrative grades 

 FNP - Fail (Did not participate)

NR - No Result expected 

FNS - Fail (Did not sit)

NA - Non Assessable 

FNC - Fail (Did not complete)

RW - Result Withheld

SP - Satisfactory Progress

I - Incomplete (from 1973-1989, was a final grade equivalent to a failure)

T - Transfer 

I - Incomplete

K - a grade which may be allocated to one or more courses in a block exemption to indicate that such courses may be used to satisfy pre-requisite requirements in the program

Glossary of terms

Accumulated grade

Each course is assigned a value based on an assessment of the workload involved. Progress towards graduation is measured in terms of accumulated grades obtained in passed courses.

 

Exempt

Exemptions from a course approved on the basis of other equivalent studies.

 

Pre-requisites/co-requisites

A pre-requisite is a requirement for students to have a passing grade for a designated course prior to enrolling in another course. A student may not attempt a course that has a prerequisite, until they have passed the prerequisite course.

 

A co-requisite is a requirement for students to be concurrently enrolled in a designated course at the same time as enrolling in another course.

 

If you have not satisfied the pre-requisite or co-requisite requirements for any courses in which you are currently enrolled, it may necessary for you to drop the course from your enrolment. If you are unsure of your ability to successfully complete these course, please contact your faculty.

 

Incomplete results

Examiners may give students who have not satisfactorily completed the requirements of a course the option of completing those requirements without re-enrolling in the course. If such an option has been offered to you, you will be given a result of 'Incomplete'.

IDS

If you have been given a grade of IDS you have been granted the opportunity to sit a deferred examination. Unless otherwise advised, the deferred examinations will be scheduled in the examination period as stated in the course specifications for the course involved.  The details of the deferred examinations conducted during normal USQ examination periods will be available on your personal examination timetable via UConnect at least six weeks before the examination period begins.

Please note that if you have received a result of IDS, IS, IDM, IM, IDB or ISM and have not received the appropriate information (via UConnect > UDo > Student Centre > Grades > Grade comment or UMail) within ten days of the release of your results, it is your responsibility to contact USQ via AskUSQ to determine these requirements.

 

IS

If you have been given a grade of IS you have been granted the opportunity to sit a supplementary examination. Unless otherwise advised, the supplementary examinations will be scheduled in the examination period as stated in the course specifications for the course involved.  The details of the deferred examinations conducted during normal USQ examination periods will be available on your personal examination timetable via UConnect at least six weeks before the examination period begins.

Please note that if you have received a result of IDS, IS, IDM, IM, IDB or ISM and have not received the appropriate information (via UConnect > UDo > Student Centre > Grades > Grade comment or UMail) within ten days of the release of your results, it is your responsibility to contact USQ via AskUSQ to determine these requirements.

 

IDM

If you have been given a grade of IDM you have been granted the opportunity to submit a deferred assignment to complete the requirements of the course. The details of this further work will be available for you to view at UConnect > UDo > Student Centre> Grades > Grade Comment.  

Please note that if you have received a result of IDS, IS, IDM, IM, IDB or ISM and have not received the appropriate information (via UConnect > UDo > Student Centre > Grades > Grade comment or UMail) within ten days of the release of your results, it is your responsibility to contact USQ via AskUSQ to determine these requirements.

 

IM

If you have been given a grade IM you have been granted the opportunity to complete the requirements of the course by submitting Make-up work. The details of this further work will be available for you to view at UConnect > UDo > Student Centre> Grades > Grade Comment.

IDB

If you have been given a grade of IDB you have been granted the opportunity to sit a deferred examination and submit a deferred assignment to complete the requirements of the course.  Unless otherwise advised, the deferred examinations will be scheduled in the examination period as stated in the course specifications for the course involved. The details of this further work will be available for you to view at UConnect > UDo > Student Centre> Grades > Grade Comment.

ISM

If you have been given a grade of ISM you have been granted the opportunity to sit a supplementary examination and the opportunity to complete the requirements of the course by submitting Make-up work. The details of this further work will be available for you to view at UConnect > UDo > Student Centre> Grades > Grade Comment.   

Unless otherwise advised, the supplementary examinations will be scheduled in the examination period as stated in the course specifications for the course involved.  The details of the deferred examinations conducted during normal USQ examination periods will be available on your personal examination timetable via UConnect at least six weeks before the examination period begins.

Result not available

This indicates that a final result has not been able to be provided. The reason could be practical component still underway, assessment yet to be marked, illness of an examiner or examination paper not yet received from an overseas centre. The upgraded result will be released as soon as possible.

 

Fail

If you have received a result of 'Fail' you will need to re-enrol in the course in the future if you wish to gain credit for it.

 

Result withheld

If your results have been withheld, it will be because of outstanding fees or a library fine. Your results will be released as soon as the relevant fee is paid.

 

Transfer

A course which is transferred to a new program will have the grade changed to "T Transfer to another USQ program" under the original program where the course was first studied. The original grade the student received for that course will only show under the new program and will contribute to GPA under this program only.

 

Block exemption

A block exemption is a block of courses (allocated grade "K") which may be used to satisfy pre-requisite requirements in the program.
