Student Safety

Your safety is of highest importance to USQ and there are a number of ways you can keep yourself safe.

Safety tips

  • Whenever possible, travel with your friends or in groups
  • Keep valuables such as mobile phones, laptops and iPods out of sight and stay aware of your surroundings when travelling on public transport or in public areas
  • Walk in well lit areas even if it means your trip is longer
  • When you are headed to your car/house, have your keys ready in your hand
  • Try to keep people informed of your whereabouts and when they might expect you back home
  • Don't leave your drink unattended and don't accept drinks from people you don't know
  • Watch out for your friends and if you are concerned about them, check that they are ok or ask someone for advice
  • If you feel threatened in any way while walking on the street, go to a shop or a house with its lights on and ask for the police to be contacted

Harrassment and Discrimination

The Staff Equity and Diversity Office within Human Resources maintains a trained network of volunteer employee Harassment and Discrimination Contact Officers (HDCOs). HDCO's provide information, support and assistance to University employees and students wishing to discuss how to resolve any form of discrimination, workplace harassment, sexual harassment and bullying (eg race, gender, sexuality or disability discrimination). For further information about how to contact a HDCO, visit Human Resources.
