Glossary of terms
Accumulated grade
Each course is assigned a value based on an assessment of the workload involved. Progress towards graduation is measured in terms of accumulated grades obtained in passed courses.
Exempt
Exemptions from a course approved on the basis of other equivalent studies.
Pre-requisites/co-requisites
A pre-requisite is a requirement for students to have a passing grade for a designated USQ course prior to enrolling in another course. A student may not attempt a course that has a prerequisite, until they have passed the prerequisite course.
A co-requisite is a requirement for students to be concurrently enrolled in a designated USQ course at the same time as enrolling in another course.
If you have not satisfied the pre-requisite or co-requisite requirements for any courses in which you are currently enrolled, it may necessary for you to drop the course from your enrolment. Contact your Faculty if you are unsure about your ability to successfully complete these courses.
Incomplete results
Examiners may give students who have not satisfactorily completed the requirements of a course the option of completing those requirements without re-enrolling in the course. If such an option has been offered to you, you will have been given a result of 'Incomplete'.
IDS or IS
If you have been given a grade of IDS or IS you have been granted the opportunity to sit for a deferred or supplementary examination. Unless otherwise advised, these deferred or supplementary examinations will be scheduled in the examination period as stated in the course specifications for the course involved.
The actual date, time and place of those deferred and/or supplementary examinations conducted during normal USQ examination periods will be published by the examinations section at least six weeks before the examination period begins and will then be available on USQConnect.
If you are enrolled in the on-campus mode for a course, it is your responsibility to either access USQConnect or to refer to the timetable on the noticeboard outside of Administration to determine the examination details.
If you are enrolled in the external or web mode of a course, you will be sent an Assessment Advice form advising you of the examination details of the supplementary or deferred exam. If this letter does not arrive at your mailing address at least four weeks prior to the examination period (2 weeks for Semester 3 exams) when the examination is offered, it is your responsibility to contact the examinations section at USQ.
IDM or IM
If you have been given a grade of IDM or IM you have been granted the opportunity to complete the requirements of the course by submitting either further or outstanding assignment work. In some instances the details of this further work will be provided under Examiner Notes in Student Centre within UConnect.
If details of the make-up work are not provided in the Examiner Notes, a Statement of Requirements for Further Work specifying these requirements and the date by which these requirements must be met will be sent to you shortly. Please note that if you have received a result of 'Incomplete + Makeup' or 'Incomplete + Defer Work' and have not received the appropriate information either through Examiner Notes or the Statement of Requirements for Further Work within ten days of the release of your results, it is your responsibility to contact the relevant Faculty to determine these requirements.
Result not available
This indicates that a final result has not been able to be provided. The reason could be practical component still to be completed, illness of an examiner or examination paper not yet received from an overseas centre. The upgraded result will be released as soon as possible.
Fail
If you have received a result of 'Fail' you will need to re-enrol in the course in the future if you wish to gain credit for it.
Result withheld
If your results have been withheld, it will be because of outstanding fees or a library fine. Your results will be released as soon as the relevant fee is paid.
Transfer
A course which is transferred to a new program will have the grade changed to "T Transfer to another USQ program" under the original program where the course was first studied. The original grade the student received for that course will only show under the new program and will contribute to GPA under this program only.
Block exemption
A block of a specified number of courses, and the grade "K" may be allocated to one or more courses in the block to indicate that such courses may be used to satisfy pre-requisite requirements in the program.
